As I was surfing the internet, I ran into the most interesting question - Why do dogs bark at the vacuum? One person attempted to answer this. Whether it is true or not, I do not know. You can decide for yourself.
Dog hearing is much better than human hearing, and they can hear in the ultrasonic range - very high frequency sounds, which humans cannot hear. Vacuum cleaners tend to put out loud ultrasonic sounds that are irritating and frightening to dogs. They attack the vacuum because they just want it to be quiet.

I always knew that dogs can hear better than us. But Sandy is getting old and she can't even hear me walking out when she is sleeping, she used to though. She didn't hear me getting up from my bed and she was still sleeping on my bed and I was in the living room for 2 hours and she was still sleeping on my bed. Maybe she is just lazy and doesn't want to get up. Old dogs. "Old dogs, children, and watermelon".
Yup, Sandy can't hear well anymore. We can sneak up on her and she gets so excited when she realizes we're there! But she still gets mad at the vacuum and your remote control car.
Dogs hate fire engines and police cars also. Mandy always howls when they go by.

Very interesting. My dog Pepper used to howl (I thought sing) every time I played the piano. We thought it was a very neat trick he did. You just burst my bubble, Becky. I thought he was such a smart singing dog.
